Poker limits
Poker is a gambling game but it is obvious that it would be too cumbersome to play it if it continued indefinitely. So, while there is a concept such as a no limit poker game, mostly games have a regulation saying how many times a player may open or raise, a condition called betting limits. While fixed limit and spread limit games are the most common, the other kind of games offered in poker play are no limit and pot limit, with both these two kind of games being termed as big bet games.
It is a general rule that whenever limit games are being played, there has to be a minimum bet size and a maximum bet size with the provision of a betting unit which is equal to the smallest value in which wagers can be staked. So, if a game allows the limits ranging between $25 and $100 and the betting unit is $5, then the play allows betting to start from the minimum $25 and can go up as much as $100 and all wagers must be done only in multiples of $5 and no other bet sizes will be allowed. If played with a bring-in, then the game would allow bet size to be lower than the minimum bet which can either be called or raised to the minimum value and completed.
There are some poker games that invite gamblers playing for very high stakes and hence any restriction of betting limits only makes the game less exciting. To counter the problem, no limit poker games are played for benefit of the patrons vying for a pot that would go as high as possible. The freedom of the betting pattern of a no limit game allows gamblers to raise the bet size to any amount they please and can even stake their entire stock in the pot in a single raise if they want. However, this concept of going all the way is subject to rules and regulations governing gameplay as observed in the casino houses.
