Poker limits II

The most common variation of limit game popular among players is the fixed limit game pattern where the player must abide by the bet size that is fixed and all he must decide is whether to wager the amount or not. To allow bluffing strategy of play, some games permit doubling the fixed limit amount at some stage of play and then this is called the big bet. However the fixed amount is applicable only to the size of raise and not to the total bet amount in any given round. So, if there is a 5-round poker game played with fixed limit of $10/$20 then the opening three rounds are played with fixed bets of $10 and the final two rounds the amount is doubled to a big bet of $20. Now it is possible that in a given round, someone bets $20 and the amount is raised $10 and the player opts to re-raise $10 which would put the total bet amount for that round at $40.

A variation of fixed limit is kill game where a player either wins a pot of preset size or wins a series of hands. A player who triggers the kill game is required to pay a kill blind, equal in value to 1.5 times or double the size of big blind and is called half kill or full kill respectively. The betting limits also are respectively multiplied by 1.5 or 2 times.

If the poker game is played where a player can raise equal to the value of the current pot, it is a pot limit game. Another way to raise a bet in a pot limit game is not to raise the maximum and equal to the pot size but only till a value that is at least equal or slightly more than the amount of dough currently being betted or raised in that round of play.
